Course Aims

 

Stressing level 1

 

This course is intended to provide a delegate with the underpinning knowledge to be able to restore a stress.

 

Learning Objectives

 

At the end of this course the delegates will: –

 

  • Be able to understand the reason for Stressing
  • Have a comprehensive understanding of Track Terminology relating to Stressing
  • Be able to supervise the removal/repair of Rail Defects
  • Understand the correct installation of insulated Rail Joints within C. W. R.
  • Be able to accurately calculate the Stress requirements including Pull Force, Pressure Reading and Original Stress Free Temperature
  • Be able to understand a Restoration of Stress Certificate

Course Duration – One day, inclusive of theory assessment

 

Pre-requisites Delegates attending this course should be capable of using a calculator and working out simple formulae. Prior basic knowledge of the Permanent Way and its components is essential

 

Certification

 

A Certificate of Technical Competency Level 1 and a Network Rail Statement of Achievement will be awarded upon successful completion of an underpinning knowledge assessment. All successful delegates MUST complete a period of mentoring in the workplace under the guidance of a suitably qualified person as specified by Network Rail’s Restoration of Stress – Level 1 Mentoring Sheet.

 

 

Stressing level 2

 

Course Aims

 

This course is intended to enhance the underpinning knowledge of holders of Level 1 Certification, to enable them to correctly induce the required Stress into existing and newly installed C. W. R.

 

Learning Objectives

 

At the end of this course the delegates will: –

 

  • Be able to undertake a preliminary Site Survey
  • Have a clear understanding of pulling Parameter Limitations.
  • Be able to demonstrate an underpinning knowledge of the Re-Stressing of existing C.W.R.
  • Be able to demonstrate an underpinning knowledge of the Stressing of C.W.R. that is newly laid, in curves, through tunnels and over longitudinal timbers (way beams)

Course Duration

 

Two days, inclusive of theory assessment.

 

Pre-requisites

 

Delegates attending this course must hold a Level 1 Certificate of Competency or have attended a course for Level 1 in conjunction with this course.

 

Certification

 

A Certificate of Technical Competency Level 2 and a Network Rail Statement of Achievement will be awarded upon successful completion of an underpinning knowledge assessment.
All successful delegates MUST complete a period of mentoring in the workplace under the guidance of a suitably qualified person as specified by Network Rail’s Restoration of Stress – Level 2 Mentoring Sheet.

 

Stressing level 3

 

Course Aims

 

This course is designed to expand the knowledge and skills of existing holders of Level 2 Competency Certification, to enable delegates to undertake the Stressing of all types of suitable S&C

 

Learning Objectives

 

At the end of this course the delegates will: –

 

  • Be able to undertake a preliminary Site Survey
  • Have a clear understanding of pulling Parameter Limitations
  • Have clear understanding of the correct siting of Adjustment Switches
  • Be able to demonstrate an underpinning knowledge of the General Stressing Procedure relating to S&C
  • Have a comprehensive understanding of the Components and their replacement within S&C
  • Be able to determine the Causes and Rectification Method for Stressing faults within S&C

 

Course Duration

 

One day, inclusive of theory assessment

 

Pre-requisites

 

Delegates attending this course must be holders of a valid Level 1 and 2 Certificate of Competence and have a comprehensive knowledge of S&C Construction.

 

Certification

 

A Certificate of Technical Competency Level 3 and a Network Rail Statement of Achievement will be awarded upon successful completion of an underpinning knowledge assessment.
All successful delegates MUST complete a period of mentoring in the workplace under the guidance of a suitably qualified person as specified by Network Rail’s Restoration of Stress – Level 3 Mentoring Sheet.
